Jacob, James, and Jeffrey want to go to the latest King's game, but they cannot find a ride. Finally, Mr. D agrees to take them to the game (even though he said he does not like football), but they have to pay 30 dollars. Each boy promptly comes up with ten dollars.
He feels guilty after taking them (and discovering that it isn't football after all), and refunds them five one dollar bills. Jacob, James and Jeffrey are so glad to be at the game that after they each pocket one dollar, they give Mr. D two dollars for being such a good guy.
Each boy has now spent nine dollars for a total of 27 dollars. (Nine times three is twenty seven, at least where I went to school!). They gave Mr. D a two dollar tip. Twenty seven and two makes twenty nine.
The problem is where did the missing dollar go?
